Box turtle with unique injury is ready to come home
- off-site education animal
- static display animal
This eastern box turtle arrived at our facility with a fractured carapace. In time, he was able to heal from this traumatic injury and does not seem to have any lasting limitations or disability; however, the missing piece of his carapace leaves him vulnerable to predators, rendering him nonreleasable.
He currently shares an enclosure with several other box turtles with no issues, including during meal times. He enjoys a good soak in his water pan and is generally good natured. His carapace injury makes for an excellent opportunity to educate the public on keeping an eye out for other box turtles on the road and how to help them.
