The immature owl was presumed hit by a car and presented with left wing radius and ulna fractures as well as a left eye injury. The left eye was removed. Surgery was done to pin the radius and ulna with an external fixator. The fractures didn’t heal well enough to allow for flight.

The owl can move around the outdoor mew very well reaching perches at approximately 5ft. without ramps. The owl has eaten well in captivity.

When startled the owl will leave the perch. If movement is slow and calm the bird does well.
The bird will stay on perch and watch wherever a stranger approaches the outdoor enclosure.

Due to the age of the owl when admitted to our facility, we believe the owl can be trained as an education ambassador. The veterinarians believe the fractures to be healed and non-painful to allow a good quality of life in captivity.
