Applications are being accepted for interns 18 years old or older interested in an internship at a wildlife sanctuary in coastal North Carolina. Interns will receive intense rehabilitation training that focuses on native species of wildlife. This includes small mammals as well as a wide variety of birds (songbirds, raptors, waterfowl, sea birds, shore birds). With this training, the intern will be able to participate in actual patient care and practice hands-on wildlife rehabilitation skills. Upon completion of the internship, the intern will receive a certificate documenting the skills learned and the hours of service performed.
This is an eight week long internship. Interns are required to work 32 hours per week over the course of 5 shifts per week. Weekday shifts are 6 hours long and weekend shifts are 8 hours long. Each intern is required to work at least two nights and one weekend shift per week. We are open 7 days a week including holidays from 7am - 7pm in Spring and Summer, and 8am-8pm in Fall and Winter. Our Spring/Summer shifts run from 7am - 1pm, 10am - 4pm and 1pm - 7pm. An intern's first week is all morning shifts to allow for optimal training.
