Main Accountabilities:

• Develops and enables Wildlife Rehabilitation team through ongoing communication, training, educational updates, consultation, recognition, constructive feedback and annual performance evaluations; makes final decisions on personnel issues
• Ensures a positive, professional, and safe working environment at all times; with a focus on both human and animal safety
• Maintains, updates, and grows the Wildlife Rehabilitation Program, including maintaining/implementing/developing wildlife rehabilitation protocols, networking with other organizations, reviewing literature and attending relevant conferences
• Acts as the key liaison between Wildlife Rehabilitation and other TWC departments, centre management, and external organizations
• Works closely with the veterinary department to conduct rounds, review medical cases, and collaboratively review/update care protocols as needed
• Maintains wildlife rehabilitation department budget and makes recommendations regarding staffing and resources
• Develops and oversees Intern and Foster Care program
• Assists with fundraising and public relations activities as needed

Job Qualifications:

• University or college degree in related field

• Minimum 5 years of management experience within a licensed wildlife rehabilitation centre or similar animal facility
• Previous experience overseeing staff/volunteers
• Valid Driver’s License

• Demonstrated abilities in the care and rehabilitation of a broad range of wildlife species, including examinations, nutrition, caging, environmental enrichment, behavioral and releasability assessments
• Demonstrated medical skills including injections, fracture immobilization, gavage, fluid therapy, wound management, hematology knowledge, familiar with common wildlife parasites and diseases
• Strong knowledge of Southern Ontario wildlife identification and natural history is a definite asset
• Strong interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to influence with integrity and work collaboratively across the organization and with external parties
• Strong leadership skills with passion for developing and enabling the team
• Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and external organizations/individuals
• Motivated self-starter, with ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities
• Flexible and adaptable to changing and dynamic work environment
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail
• Ongoing attendance/participation in conferences, workshops, and training in a related field
• Computer skills including proficiency in Word and Excel
