Wildlife Care Technician is a temporary position to assist during Anderson Humane’s busiest season lasting no
longer than April through October. Our Wildlife Care Tech is responsible for the daily husbandry of our injured
and orphaned wildlife patients at our Elburn location. The Wildlife Care Tech must practice humane and
confident handling of a wide variety of wildlife species, and they must complete daily hand feeding of
orphaned animals while directing interns and volunteers.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (to include, but not limited to)
• Acquire an understanding of the wildlife animals’ internal movement from intake until release, and the
importance of working in accordance with federal and state laws, and organizational and department
policies and procedures.
• Preparing and feeding meals for a variety of wildlife animals
• Ensure that throughout the day
all animal areas, dishes and laundry are routinely replaced and cleaned
all animals’ immediate needs are met, and enrichment is provided
• Supervising and assisting Wildlife volunteers and interns with animal care tasks.
• Promote Anderson Humane’s mission by treating all animals humanely and with care and compassion
at all times.
• Engage in positive, and constructive relationships with the public while also being objective and
reasonable.
• Engage in opportunities to respectfully inform and educate the public on wildlife care.
• Diffuse conflicts by making decisions that resolve problems. When unavoidable, deal with conflict
calmly and constructively focusing on facts and finding a solution, not on the persons involved.
• Assisting Wildlife staff in managing cases of severe illness and trauma, such as fluid therapy, wound
care, and administering injections and medications.
• Model professional behavior in stressful or high-emotion situations; asks appropriate questions to gather
pertinent information.
• Respond to requests from the public and Anderson Humane staff with urgency while being clear,
concise, and helpful.
• Maintain accurate and detailed financial records of cash, credit, and check handling following
organizational and department policies and procedures.
• Regularly update the WRMD and Shelter Luv database accurately with most relevant data regarding
animal care and donations.
• Project an outgoing, enthusiastic, and supportive representation of Anderson Humane at all times.
• Attend any events, meetings, or programs, as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Must be available to work a flexible schedule of mornings, afternoons, and evening shifts on weekdays,
weekends, and the occasional holidays.
• Shared cubicle/office space possible.
• Willingness and ability to work with animals of all temperaments and species; to accommodate animals
in the workplace.
• Exposure to high noise levels; potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, animal scratches and bites.
• Work may be performed outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions.
• Regularly active, like walking, standing, and lifting up to ten hours a day.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.

Candidate Requirements:

EDUCATION & EXPERTISE
• Previous experience caring for, and handling wildlife animals preferred.
• Must have own transportation, valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
• The desire and ability to work with the public; a passion for animal welfare, and Anderson Humane’s
mission.
• Fundamental knowledge of a variety of native Illinois wildlife species.
• Sense of confidence and ease handling wildlife animals of all species and ages.
• The initiative and ability to work independently and as part of the team.
• Effective time management skills; can multi-task and redirect efforts with minimal supervision when
priorities change.
• Ability to manage tasks and projects, communications, and priorities in a constantly changing
environment.
• Superior interpersonal communication skills; clearly and concisely; Spanish fluency is a plus
• Comfortable learning new computer programs and technology.
• Familiar with Google’s platform.
