We are looking for Wildlife Programs Technician(s) to join our summer team!
Position Profile:
The Wildlife Programs Technician position offers a unique chance to engage with the various aspects of a busy wildlife rehabilitation facility. We are hiring for three positions in two main areas: Animal Care and Helpline & Admissions. Staff members will receive training in both areas to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Wildlife Programs Technician - Animal Care (2 Positions Available)
As an Animal Care Technician, you will be hands-on in the day-to-day care of injured or orphaned wildlife. This is a great opportunity to grow your existing wildlife rehabilitation skills and learn directly from experienced wildlife rehabilitators and support the care of animals on their journey to recovery.
Wildlife Programs Technician - Helpline & Admissions (1 Position Available)
In this role, you will focus on engaging with the public, coordinating patient admissions, and providing vital support to members of the public seeking assistance with wildlife emergencies. If you have strong communication skills, enjoy learning and helping others, this is the position for you.
Position Type: Full-time (40 hrs/week), seasonal
Start Date: Mid-April – May 1st, concluding August 31, 2025
Compensation: $19 to $20.00/hour

Established in 1979, Wildlife Rescue Association of BC is a leader in the rehabilitation of wild animals and is committed to educating the public on how to coexist peacefully with wildlife. Located in Burnaby, BC, we are western Canada’s busiest wildlife rehabilitation centre, with over 4,000 animal patients admitted and nearly 50,000 communications through our helpline program last year.
Highlight of Key Responsibilities
Wildlife Programs Technician - Helpline & Admissions
• Coordinate daily operations of Wildlife Rescue's busy Support Centre, overseeing a range of tasks, including:
o Responding to public inquiries about wildlife via phone and email.
o Educating the public on coexisting with wildlife and promoting the importance of urban wildlife in our communities.
o Managing wildlife rescues, transports, fosters, reunions, and releases for patients who have completed their rehabilitation.
o Assisting municipalities, partner organizations, and members of the public who bring injured wildlife to our facility.
• Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders to further the mission of Wildlife Rescue.
• Support the training, development, and supervision of Support Centre volunteers, practicum students, and summer staff, recognizing their contributions and fostering a positive work environment.
• Ensure adherence to policies and procedures, maintaining the highest standards of operation and safety.
• Ensure accurate and efficient data entry into the Wildlife Rescue database, following strict data collection procedures.
• Encourage public support by assisting with donation efforts that directly contribute to Wildlife Rescue’s mission and ongoing work.
• Collaborate in identifying and implementing initiatives that support and expand the organization’s mission.
Wildlife Programs Technician – Animal Care
• Assist with the treatment, rehabilitation, and care of wildlife patients, including:
o Supporting patient admissions and assisting hospital staff with examinations, assessments, and treatments.
o Preparing species-specific diets and providing appropriate housing for a variety of wildlife species.
o Leading the care of nestling and fledgling songbirds, including feeding, cleaning, weighing, and conducting daily health checks.
o Ensuring that environments, including cages, aviaries, and equipment, are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized to maintain high standards of facility hygiene.
• Maintain accurate patient records, ensuring timely and efficient data entry.
• Assist with the training and supervision of animal care volunteers, hospital volunteers, practicum students, and summer staff, ensuring their development and recognizing their contributions.
• Collaborate with Wildlife Technicians to communicate facility needs, manage supply inventory, and ensure smooth operation of the hospital.
• Contribute to identifying, exploring, and implementing initiatives that further the organization’s mission and improve the care and treatment of wildlife patients.
Role Specific Experience:
Wildlife Programs Technician – Animal Care
• Experience working or volunteering at a rehabilitation centre, hands-on animal care position, or similar.
Wildlife Programs Technician - Helpline & Admissions
• Experience working or volunteering in a busy call center, or fast-paced work environment.
Additional Key Qualifications & Experience
• Diploma or certification in communications, biology, teaching, or similar discipline, as an asset.
• Strong IT skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience with relevant software applications.
• Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and be highly adaptable to changing priorities
• Positive attitude and willingness to collaborate with team members to achieve shared goals.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends, evenings, and statutory holidays
• Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Note:
• All candidates must be willing to submit proof of current tetanus and COVID-19 vaccination and to obtain a criminal record check as per policy. Rabies vaccination is a requirement to work with bats.
