Reason for entering rehabilitation.:

This young adult male Turkey Vulture was brought into our rehabilitation center in May 2025. He had no injuries, but was hanging by the finders home for about a week, just watching them do yard work and not fearful of them. After many expert opinions and diagnosis, we all believe he is an imprint. He is fully flighted and not afraid of people, pets or other birds.

Can the animal express species-typical behaviors (e.g. eat appropriate whole foods, climb, perch, groom, dig, fly, swim, ambulate normally for species)?:

He is a wonderful bird who eats and tears a part anything we give him from rats, whole chickens, venison, mice, beef, rabbits and etc. He is fully flighted and glove trained. He loves to perch and sun himself, but also loves walking on the ground and is very curious! He prefers being around people and is great with other birds.

Can the animal be handled without negative welfare affects?: yes

He is very excited to see caregivers. He will wait on the perch or come visit you nicely as you step into the enclosure. He is fully flighted as well.

This is how the animal currently reacts when a stranger nears it (e.g. does it modify behavior, show signs of fear, agonism, habituation):

He is very calm and chill. He does not mind having visitors and sits nicely for them on the perch or glove. He has been alone in a mew, but I think he would be fine with a another TUVU. He is very smart, kind and curious! He will be a great education bird!!

A wonderful young male TUVU who will make an excellent education bird! He is fully flighted, calm and curious. Great with people, pets and other birds. Needs to find a forever home.
