Reason for entering rehabilitation.:

Male, mature (over 5 years) Bald eagle, was shot in an SLC neighborhood in January 2025 which resulted in a fracture to his distal ulna. After orthopedic surgery, and several procedures to adjust the equipment he ended up with nerve damage to his R carpometacarpus and was determined not releasable. He has quite a bit of flight and can get at least 6 ft off the ground so he will need a fully enclosed enclosure. He is large, about 5 kg and had very minimal external signs of injury (photo included). No wing droop at all, he does have 1 primary feather that looks mildly out of place due to the nerve damage from the carpus.

Carpal abrasions from limited enclosure space.

Yes. Mild flight capabilities

Typical of a wild adult Bald eagle, he does not like to be approached and will move away from anyone that enters his enclosure. He does well when he knows if someone is coming and if you move slowly and confidently around him. He is not habituated and would not do well as an ambassador animal.

Moves away, tries to escape the space. He would do well in a larger space with more cover and choice.
