Education Manager
The Center for Birds of Prey in Charleston, SC (www.thecenterforbirdsofprey.org) is now accepting applications for the position of Education Manager. The successful applicant will lead a small, highly dedicated team of educators in working with one of the most diverse collections of raptors in North America. This is a full time position with benefits. Some weekend and holiday hours will be required.
Summary:
Under supervision of the Director of Operations, manage the overall operations of the Center’s Education Program, including program content, coordination of educational instruction and presentations, and associated administrative functions.
Responsibilities include:
Schedule, organize and facilitate the delivery of educational presentations; present or assist in the presentation of specific programs; train and manage appropriate staff and volunteer staff members.
Ensure compliance of the Center’s Education Programs with local, state and federal policies and regulations and act as an Ambassador for the Center and its mission.
Supervise Resident Bird Staff and coordinate associated personnel actions including, but not limited to, performance appraisals, promotions and work schedules.
Identify materials/equipment needed and ensure the proper control, usage, and maintenance of materials/equipment associated with educational activities.
Collect and analyze Education Department data; prepare schedules and special reports; maintain program records and statistical information; ensure adequate communication of necessary information to management.
Develop working relationships with educational departments at cooperating institutions; maintain a database of contacts for educational programming.
Coordinate the training of resident birds; manage the working schedule of birds utilized in the educational activities in cooperation with Captive Breeding Manager.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Biology, or related field
5+ years of experience in Environmental Education, Avian Husbandry/Training, or related field
Strong Leadership Skills
Strong written and verbal communications skills
Strong Public Speaking skills
Must be able to work outside during all seasons
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Weekend, evening and holiday work required
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the areas of personnel management, curriculum and program development or avian husbandry and/or training.
