WILDLIFE REHABILITATION MANAGER – OIL PROGRAMS
Full-time, Non-exempt
Reports to the Oil Programs Director
Effective November 1, 2025

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Response Manager & Rehabilitation Specialist is responsible for managing the rehabilitation of wildlife during an oil spill response or wildlife-related disaster response. Also, this position will be responsible for identification, procurement, storage and maintenance of response supplies and equipment, in addition to taking a direct role in management and training of our responder network. This position will work under the direction of the Oil Programs Director and Wildlife Veterinarian to research, develop and implement current best practices for oiled wildlife rehabilitation and work with the team on planning and preparedness throughout the year in non-spill times. Other specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Oiled Wildlife and Disaster Response
• Work with key stakeholders to enhance, develop, and implement rehabilitation protocols and procedures for oil spill and disaster response.
• Coordinate, maintain and enhance equipment inventory both on-site, and strategic off-site stockpiles. Including but not limited to, medications, supplements, PPE, safety equipment, housing equipment and other necessary supplies needed for a response.
• Fill rehabilitation roles on behalf of Tri-State for local, national, and international response efforts.
• Travel for mutual aid requests to support wildlife rehabilitation efforts during large wildlife impact events, disease outbreaks, and weather-related natural disaster efforts that affect large populations of wildlife.
• Collaborate with other team members to coordinate and facilitate drills, workshops, and training for agencies and industry partners.
• Ensure the facility is always prepared for an immediate response, supplies and equipment are in good working order, and preventative maintenance measures are followed.
• Conduct and/or assist with research projects as assigned.
Response Network and Personnel Training
• Partner with Response Manager & Field Specialist position to coordinate drills, workshops and trainings for agency and industry on an annual basis.
• Develop and coordinate oiled wildlife rehabilitation trainings, workshops, drills, and exercises for Tri-State’s CORE Team, Paraprofessional Response Network, and agency/industry workshops hosted by Tri-State.
• Maintain Tri-State’s CORE and Paraprofessional database, coordinating with the Volunteer Manager as needed
• Represent Tri-State at rehabilitation conferences, disaster/emergency response conferences, rehabilitation and conservation working groups, and other opportunities to network with the greater wildlife rehabilitation, conservation, and disaster response communities on a local, national and international level.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with rehabilitation partners; locally, nationally and internationally.
• Represent Tri-State at rehabilitation conferences, disaster/emergency response conferences, rehabilitation and conservation working groups, and other opportunities to network with the greater wildlife rehabilitation, conservation and disaster response communities on a local, national, and international level.
Requirements:
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in wildlife rehabilitation, preferably with aquatic wildlife species.
• Experience managing a large network of volunteers or responders on a project or response.
• Veterinary Technician License (LVT, CVT, RVT) strongly desired.
• Have strong organizational, record-keeping, computer and analytical skills, experience with WRMD desired.
• Possess excellent writing, communication, and public speaking skills.
• Understand and follow safety requirements necessary to work around hazardous materials.
• Be able to work efficiently and able to make quick decisions.
• Degree in Biology, Wildlife Management, Veterinary Technology or equivalent experience.
• Completion of ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 within 6 months of hire at organization expense.
• Completion of 40-hour HAZWOPER training within 6 months of hire at organization expense.
• Completion of CWR certification within one year of hire at organization expense.
• Maintain capability to respond to oil spills and wildlife-affected disaster responses on short notice.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, US Passport, and upon hire, obtain a TWIC card.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs, can sit, stand, kneel and bend over for long periods of time. Also, can work in both hot and cold conditions, indoors or outside, while wearing full protective suits (Tyvek or Tychem).
