Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator
The Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator will collaborate with the medical team and Rehabilitation Team to care for approximately 5000 animals/year. This role involves overseeing and assisting managers, and staff across the wildlife areas of rescue, admission and release. Key responsibilities include:
● Providing care for each patient as directed by the program manager and veterinarian. Care tasks can include administering medication, providing basic wound treatment, bandaging, and performing physical therapy.
● Collaborating with two full-time veterinarians on treatment plans.
● Supervising staff throughout each animal's rehabilitation process until its release.
● Reviewing and updating medical and rehabilitation protocols in collaboration with vets and staff.
● Overseeing staff on all record keeping and periodically reviewing the year-end annual report.
● Assisting and supervising managers and staff in training new volunteers and employees, including keeping records of their skills.
● Performing basic lab work, such as reading fecal smears, as well as advanced lab work, such as preparing and reading blood smears and performing cytology.
● Assisting with or performing anesthesia, radiographs, blood draws, and other medical procedures as directed by the manager or veterinarian.
● Assisting the veterinarian(s) with scheduled and emergency surgeries.
● Performing euthanasia when necessary, according to program policy.
● Answering and returning phone calls to advise the public on wildlife conflicts.
● Ensuring patient charts and records are accurately updated.
● Identifying and reporting maintenance issues in a timely manner.
● Maintaining and inventorying medical, animal care, and food supplies.
Qualifications:
● Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator (CWR) from the IWRC and NWRA, or a minimum of one year of full-time employment at a busy rehabilitation center with experience rehabilitating a wide variety of species.
● Vet Tech or advanced NWRA training in medical treatments and a basic IWRC certificate.
● Experience supervising staff.
● Ability to get a State and Federal wildlife Rehabilitator License within four months of employment.
● Chemical Capture certification is a plus.
● Must be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate or have a GED.
● Willingness to become rabies vaccinated if not already.
● Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
● Excellent time management skills.
Compensation and Schedule:
● Starting wage is $25-$28 per hour.
● This is a full-time position with a 40-hour work week, typically in four 10-hour shifts.
● The anticipated start date is Sep/Oct 2025.
