The Avian Conservation Center / Center for Birds of Prey Position Title: Injured Bird Dispatch & Transport Network Coordinator
Summary
The Avian Conservation Center is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to coordinate our Injured Bird Emergency Line and Transport Network—a vital lifeline for South Carolina’s wild birds in need. This position oversees the volunteer dispatch and transport teams, ensuring the timely and efficient treatment of over 1000 birds annually.
The Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Director of Programs and Operations and the Avian Clinic Manager, serving as a vital link between the public, the Center’s Avian Medical Clinic, and partner organizations. They will play a key role in cultivating a strong, well-supported volunteer community and supporting the Center’s mission.
Primary Responsibilities
● Oversee daily operations of the Injured Bird Emergency Line and Transport Network. ● Recruit, onboard, train, and support volunteer dispatchers and transporters.
● Provide coverage for the Emergency Line —responding to calls professionally and compassionately, and arranging efficient transport to the Clinic.
● Plan and lead volunteer meetings, training workshops, and appreciation events to strengthen engagement and teamwork.
● Develop and distribute regular volunteer communications such as newsletters, continued learning materials and updates.
● Maintain positive relationships with veterinary hospitals, partner wildlife centers, and other stakeholders who assist in bird rescue and care.
● Collaborate closely with Avian Medical Clinic staff on complex rescue or transport situations and help coordinate patient releases.
● Ensure all activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as Center policies.
● Represent the Center and its mission with professionalism, compassion, and enthusiasm.
Qualifications
● Demonstrated experience in customer or client relations and strong interpersonal skills.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
● Prior experience in wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, or animal care strongly preferred. ● Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
● Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
● Passion for wildlife conservation and a commitment to the mission of the Avian Conservation Center.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, salaried position with a starting salary of $30,000 per year. Full-time employees are eligible for health insurance benefits following a 90-day orientation period and accrue paid time off/vacation.
