Wildlife Care Specialist Lead (Adobe)

Position Summary
The Wildlife Care Specialist Lead (Adobe) is responsible for overseeing daily wildlife care operations within the Adobe area, mentoring staff and volunteers, and ensuring the highest standards of animal care, safety, sanitation, and teamwork. This leadership role supports medical care delivery, staff training, workflow coordination, and collaborative operations across departments.

Key Responsibilities
Health Monitoring & Physical Assessment
• Monitor patient behavior and physical condition to identify signs of illness, injury, or stress.
• Perform wing wraps in passerines.
• Administer SubQ fluids as directed.
• Collect samples, primarily fecal samples, for diagnostic evaluation.
• Recognize zoonotic disease risks and follow all biosecurity protocols.
• Support veterinary examinations and treatments.
• Prepare specialized diets and habitats based on species natural history, growth stage, and individual needs, in collaboration with veterinary and triage staff.
• Maintain hospital facilities, outbuildings, and enclosures to a high standard of hygiene, organization, and biosecurity per TWC protocols.

Patient Care & Facility Operations
• Provide daily husbandry, feeding, cleaning, and enrichment appropriate to each species.
• Ensure accurate medical documentation and recordkeeping.
• Support patient admissions, transfers, and releases.
• Maintain feeding, cleaning, and medical treatment schedules.

Leadership & Training
• Train, mentor, and support Wildlife Care Assistants and volunteers.
• Assist with retraining, and continuing education programs.
• Monitor performance and provide coaching and constructive feedback.
• Ensure compliance with internal protocols and regulatory standards.

Professional Conduct & Team Collaboration
• Promote a positive team atmosphere, contributing to an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative workplace culture.
• Support strong communication and cooperation across Wildlife Care, Veterinary, Triage, Volunteer, and administrative teams to ensure cohesive operations and optimal patient outcomes.

Qualifications
Required
• 2–5 years of hands-on animal care experience, with wildlife experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring, training, or supervising staff or volunteers.
• Strong knowledge of animal husbandry, rehabilitation protocols, and biosecurity practices.

Additional Qualifications & Requirements
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Reliable transportation to and from work; valid driver’s license preferred.
• Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by patient care needs.
• Proof of current tetanus vaccination prior to start date, or signed waiver agreeing to provide proof within 30 days of hire.

Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
• Comfortable working in outdoor and variable environmental conditions.

Compensation & Schedule
• $18.50 per hour
