ANNUAL SALARY: $40,000
WORK HOURS: Work hours are variable, typically 5 days a week. Some nights, weekend, and holiday work hours required. Some in-state travel required
REPORTS TO: Executive Director

POSITION SUMMARY: The Rehabilitation Manager is responsible for managing the rehabilitation volunteers and staff to care for, rehabilitate, and release injured and orphaned raptors in partnership with the Medical Director. Requires work with the public, volunteers, and other community groups to provide complete year-round rehabilitation services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Animals and Care
• Oversee and manage animals through the rehabilitation process in a timely manner, ensuring that their care needs are met.
• Maintain high-quality standards of care.
• Develop and implement species protocols, especially regarding orphaned raptors.
• Collaborate with Medical Director to carry out treatment plans and diagnostic procedures.
• Keep accurate and detailed animal health records and oversee documentation of daily animal care.
• Capable of handling any species of raptor.
• Ensure that animals are being handled to maximize human and animal safety and that staff/interns/volunteers are trained in and following safety procedures.
• Oversee the coordination of transporting injured and orphaned raptors to the facility and coordinating the release of rehabilitation patients.

Teamwork
• Keep the Medical Director apprised of animal intakes, animal care needs, quality of animal care, and hospital needs in a timely manner.
• Supervise rehabilitation volunteers.
• Maintain open lines of communication, including attending staff meetings.
• Support staff/volunteers in answering wildlife-related email and phone inquiries.
• Coordinate with the marketing team to identify compelling cases for communication opportunities.
• Develop relationships with federal, state, and county officials (game wardens, USFWS biologists, animal control).

Administration
• Identify maintenance needs for hospital areas and outdoor flight cages and communicate them to the Maintenance Manager in a timely fashion.
• Maintain hospital equipment in accordance with laws and regulations.
• Interview new rehabilitation volunteers/staff.
• Responsible for volunteer/staff training and developing training program.
• Build effective volunteer teams and resolve conflict as necessary.
• Monitor inventory needs, including caging, and food supplies, and make orders as necessary.

Professionalism
• Use all hospital equipment appropriately and safely, follow appropriate guidelines and protocols, and obtain needed training. Equipment includes X-rays, diagnostic machines, a centrifuge, anesthesia machines, etc.
• Maintain all rehabilitation areas (inside and out) clean and well-organized.
• Professionally represent Blackland Prairie Raptor Center at all times.

Secondary Responsibilities
• In collaboration with the Maintenance Manager, assist with maintenance projects in hospital and outdoor caging.
• Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with the public, law enforcement, regulators, veterinarians, and others.
• Excellent organizational, detail, planning, and time management skills.
• Self-motivated, able to work independently with limited supervision and as a member of a team.
• Ability to multi-task, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and re-prioritize as needed.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proactive approach in resolving problems with a positive outlook.
• A working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and experience with or ability to learn RaptorMed.
• Skills related to training, coaching, and mentoring personnel are highly desirable.

QUALIFICATIONS
• A passion for Blackland Prairie Raptor Center’s mission and an interest in conservation.
• Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field.
• Three years of professional experience in wildlife rehabilitation with raptors preferred. At least one year of rehabilitation experience is required.
• One year of experience successfully managing volunteers and/or interns in a rehabilitation or similar setting preferred.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds safely.
• Must be legally entitled to work in the USA.
• Must be able to perform humane euthanasia on a regular and routine basis as well as personally and professionally handle the emotional aspects of euthanasia.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak clearly in English so that written and verbal instructions can be given and followed.
• Must be able to work in indoor and outdoor environments.
