Executive Director
The American Bald Eagle Foundation, located in the "Valley of Eagles", Haines, Alaska, is seeking an Executive Director to oversee the operations of a raptor center and natural history museum. Additionally, the Foundation owns and operates Henderson Farm, a property that is used as a communal garden operated by another non-profit.
Haines is located in the Chilkat Valley and is known as the Valley of Eagles. In fact, the Bald Eagle Preserve on the Chilkat River in Haines Borrough is one of - if not the - largest concentrations of Bald Eagles in North America.
The Foundation is open for about 4-5 months each year, depending on cruise ship schedules. The Executive Director will supervise three full-time staff including an Avian Curator, Museum Curator, and Administrative Assistant.
We are seeking an individual who wants to live in the beauty and uniqueness of small-town Alaska. If opening your front door to a moose, seeing hundreds of bald eagles and other birds, bears, whales, hiking, rafting, adventure, and the great outdoors is appealing to you, this is your opportunity. This person does not necessarily need to be an expert in all of these areas but should have experience in each area: animal collections (specifically bald eagles and raptors), museum operations and exhibits, non-profit administration, community outreach, and staff supervision.
Housing can be provided for an individual in the staff apartment or modular building.
Salary is commensurate with experience and is quite negotiable.
