Adult Bald Eagle for Placement
We are currently seeking placement for an adult non-releasable Bald Eagle in an aviary or large flight enclosure setting. After working extensively with this bird, we believe that due to age and disposition, the eagle would be best suited for a display or ambassador environment rather than a program requiring manning. The eagle is currently housed alone, but has been previous housed with con-specifics without issue.
Reason for Non-Releasability:
The eagle sustained a right metacarpal fracture that healed with residual deficits, preventing the lift and trim control necessary for sustained flight. In flight, the right alula rotates ventrally. The bird also exhibits a mild to moderate right wing droop following vigorous activity, which resolves after approximately 10–15 minutes of rest. The droop does not affects its ability to ambulate around the enclosure or maintain good feather condition. Despite its flight limitations, the eagle is capable of maintaining level flight and controlled 90-degree banking turns over distances of 100 feet.
Intake radiographs and additional flight videos are available upon request.
The eagle is located at the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program in Fort Collins, Colorado.
