Description of Position: Direct animal care and related duties, including feeding, handling, medicating, wound management, record-keeping, cleaning of enclosures and facility and other tasks. Administrative duties could include data entry, banking, social media moderation, assisting with admitting new patients, phone work, interacting with the public, helping with fundraising events and other tasks.

Experience Required: Minimum 3 years full-time as a licensed wildlife rehabilitator (not a wildlife intern) either in-home or at a facility. Proficient with feeding and handling songbirds, waterfowl, small mammals, including cottontail rabbit, ground and tree squirrel species, opossum, woodchuck, mice. Letter of reference from the director of animal care of the facility detailing experience, skills, and number of animals handled. If an in-home licensed rehabilitator, copies of state and federal annual reports will be requested. Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in animal or administrative field accepted. Preference will be given to applicants who have worked in both wildlife rehabilitation and administrative positions. Applicants who do not possess a license but can document extensive professional wildlife care experience and provide recommendations from others in the field are also welcome to apply, assuming they also have office experience.

Qualifications: Applicant must be able to demonstrate history of responsibility and attention to detail in both wildlife care and administrative areas; to follow established protocol and practices as instructed; to be self-motivated within the parameters of the position; to multi-task and maintain quality of care and work regardless of increased patient load; to maintain a sense of humor and calm under duress; to have a desire to excel and advance in the profession; to have a genuine compassion and care for individual life, and to treat all lives as equal in value when considering the investment of time and resources; to commit to the position for the season.

Requirements: Responsible for finding housing within 15 minutes of the hospital location; must have driver’s license, reliable transportation properly licensed and insured, private health insurance.

Fellow Mortals’ Operating Philosophy: New staff is joining an established team of licensed experienced wildlife rehabilitators who share a passion and commitment to wildlife care based on an attitude of ‘all in’ when needed. We work when the patients need us – not on an arbitrary schedule. During the busy spring and summer, staff works 5 days a week, an average 14 hour day. During the off season, we still work 5 days a week 8-10 hours a day. All staff members clean – regardless of seniority. We take pride in our facility and know that excellence is reflected in the most routine tasks. We work as a team and treat each other with kindness and compassion, which also extends to the animals in our care, and to the people who bring them to us.

Benefits: $2,250 per month salary, prorated for days worked. $200 monthly as medical reimbursement benefit. 3 days PTO after first 6 months. Scrubs provided. There is the potential for this position to become permanent.
