Island Wildlife Natural Care Centre is a registered charity, located on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada. Our centre is dedicated to rescuing and providing emergency care to orphaned, injured and sick wild birds and mammals of all species, including marine mammals. We have an exciting opportunity for one (1) paid internship for the spring/summer 2024.

Duties include but are not limited to:
.perform basic husbandry techniques, including tube-feeding small mammals and avian species, especially song birds
• prepare specialized diets for patients based on their species, growth stage and individual needs
• transport animals to and from the clinic, on and off island
. participate in rescues on and off island, for all species
• assist with cleaning and sanitation procedures
• maintain the clinic, outbuildings and equipment to a high standard of hygiene and organization

The ideal candidate should have some of the following qualifications:
. previous experience working or volunteering at a wildlife centre with mammals, songbirds or raptors.
• previous experience working or volunteering at a veterinary clinic, animal shelter or other animal welfare organization.
.previous experience working with marine mammals, pinnipeds especially.
• ability to work both independently and to take and implement directions well.
• fairly fit, ability to lift 30lbs, comfortable on boats and working outdoors.
• valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• 18+ years of age.

This is a paid internship. 5 days per week. Housing can be provided. Must be available to work on some weekends and some statutory holidays when required. Starting date: June 1st - (can be flexible on starting date)
Duration: 3 months. Duration can be extended for a motivated/qualified candidate.
