Timmy was surrendered at another humane shelter as a captive-bred pet. That shelter reached out to us to help place her. We don't have a ton of time to handle her but she is handlable. She would be even more amazing with some one-on-one training and time. She definitely comes around more when she is worked with.

I hesitate to answer 'no' to the 'negative welfare affects'. She is scared when you take her out but she calms after a minute or two. She will nip to let you know when she has had enough. When we were able to work with her more, she responded wonderfully to positive reinforcement. If she is in view of someone, she will sit for a bit and watch the person before she runs off.
When strangers are around, she will poke her head out and observe people. If she is already out and strangers come around, she will sit and observe them for a couple of minutes and then go back into her burrow.

Timmy is a young, female Richardson's Ground Squirrel. She was captive bred and surrendered at a shelter. She has the possiblility to be a great ambassador. She just needs a little time and attention which we, unfortunately, cannot give her as a busy wildlife rehab center.
