She was kidnapped around March 2022 in Mattoon, IL after being found near a lake. The finder kept her for about two years and moved to Clarksville, TN during this time and brought the turtle with him. She was surrendered to our rehab facility in March 2024. She came in with severe MBD, carapacial pyramiding, retained scutes, SQ edema, and pale mucous membranes.

After being kidnapped and being kept as a pet for two years, this painted turtle now has severe MBD and can't be released. She doesn’t like to be handled but would have a good quality of life as a static display animal. She is very food motivated and immediately starts eating when given food, so we're hopeful she can be trained to be more comfortable around humans. She would do best in a static display environment.
