Description

The Wisconsin Humane Society's (WHS) Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at Milwaukee provides care for over 5,000 injured, sick, and orphaned wild animals of over 150 different species annually. We operate one of the busiest and certainly the most urban wildlife hospitals in Wisconsin. Join us! We proudly work to rehabilitate and return sick, injured, and orphaned wild animals back into the wild. In addition to our rehabilitation services, we also provide guidance and support to over 12,000 callers each year who have questions or concerns about wild animals they have encountered. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

-Provide excellent client service in person, via email, and over the phone to diverse clients, including the public, first responders, law enforcement, and government employees.
-Provide animal care, including cleaning, feeding, enrichment and administering medications and treatments for patients in indoor and outdoor facilities and providing enrichment based on the needs of each patient.
-Admit, triage, and provide first aid for all incoming wild patients using established protocols. Provide humane euthanasia when needed per our guidelines.
-Assist with basic diagnostic procedures (i.e. x-rays, bloodwork) and communicate with consulting veterinarians
-Maintain accurate animal and data records.
-Assist in training, supporting, and managing volunteers and interns,
-Commit to professional development and continuing education.
-Assist in maintaining facility cleanliness.

Qualifications & Requirements​

-Wildlife rehabilitation experience preferred or bachelor’s degree in biology, animal science, or related fields.

-Able to successfully meet the physical demands of the job, which include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and lifting 50 lbs. up to waist level.
-Available to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
-Have a valid, state-issued driver's license (class D) to support with animal rescues, releases, transports and supply pickups.
-Must be up to date on tetanus vaccine. Must receive rabies vaccine within 2 months of hire date if not already rabies vaccinated; WHS covers the costs of pre-exposure rabies vaccine and biennial rabies titer checks.
-Required to obtain certified euthanasia by injection status within three months of hire and Wisconsin Wildlife Rehabilitation Basic License within six months of hire.

The Wisconsin Humane Society is the oldest and largest shelter in Wisconsin. Founded in 1879, WHS operates shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Door, Brown, and Kenosha Counties, as well as a Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis.
