World Bird Sanctuary is a non-profit organization outside of St. Louis Missouri dedicated to the preservation of bird species through rehabilitation, education, and conservation. Our hospital sees over 750 raptors each year.

Job Summary:
Seasonal Rehabilitators are responsible for the daily patient care of patients not currently under the care of the veterinary team. Rehabilitators are also responsible for training volunteers and interns, facility and enclosure cleaning, diet prep, and rescues & releases. They may be required to assist the veterinary team with duties such as handling, cage cleaning, or other needs that arise. Rehabilitators will be expected to follow established protocols and help ensure that each patient receives the highest standard of care. This is a full-time, hourly position consisting of five 8-hour work days/week.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Feed and clean the enclosures of all outdoor patients.
Feed and clean cages of babies and other indoor patients that do not currently require medical care.
Catch and restrain patients for care
Perform daily husbandry tasks such as food prep, cage cleaning, and facility cleaning.
Assess patients’ progress to determine when they are ready to move to the next stage of rehabilitation.
Enter patient data into computer records. Make detailed records of all patient care.
Perform maintenance on outdoor enclosures and perches.
Answer the phone and coordinate rescue attempts of potential new patients with the finders and rescue group.
Assess patient readiness for release and coordinate releases with banders, finders, and transporters.
Direct, train and supervise volunteers and interns on a variety of tasks.
Communicate effectively with fellow technicians, rehabilitation director, and staff veterinarian regarding patient health problems, resident animal concerns, daily operations, supplies needed, etc.
Other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
6+ months experience in wildlife rehabilitation (volunteer and intern experience is acceptable)
Must be comfortable working long hours on feet in a variety of weather conditions.
Must have good observation and communication skills.
Must work well with others and be comfortable training and supervising volunteers and interns.
Must possess a valid US driver's license and be comfortable driving a SUV on highways and city streets.
Must be self-motivated and disciplined to perform in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Completed degree in veterinary or biological sciences or related field.
Experience working with raptors.

Salary and Benefits:
$13.75/hour
On-site housing may be available in some cases. Those living on- site may be required to perform additional duties in the event of an emergency or severe weather event that prevents normally scheduled staff from coming in. On-site residents pay a $100/month utility fee but housing is otherwise free.
