Seasonal Wildlife Rehabilitation Technician

Schedule: We are hiring for 2 full-time positions and 1 part-time position (24-32 hours per week). The positions are seasonal, following a non-traditional work week, typically running from May to October, depending on the needs of the organization. Weekend and evening shift availability is required. Please specify which position you are applying for on the application.

Compensation: Hourly, non-exempt position paying $17.50 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY:
Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC) is seeking a Seasonal Wildlife Rehabilitation Technician to support animal care shifts as part of our rehabilitation and release program. Responsibilities include animal intake, daily care, enrichment, diet preparation, assisting with releases, and maintaining daily cleanliness of the hospital, including laundry and dishes. This position reports directly to the Wildlife Care Manager. Additional duties include training volunteers and interns, participating in educational events, and answering LTWC phones.
WHO WE ARE:
Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Inc. (LTWC) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and release orphaned and injured wild birds and mammals. LTWC operates under permits issued by California Fish & Wildlife and the United States Department of the Interior Fish & Wildlife Service. Our 27-acre location includes multiple wildlife enclosures and a new multi-purpose administration and animal care hospital building.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Animal Care
● Lead & Train volunteers/interns in daily cleaning & feeding priorities
● Clean and maintain daily hospital cleanliness, including dishes, laundry, and general upkeep
● Cleaning enclosures, feeding animals, and observing for behavioral or activity changes
● Inventory supplies in each building daily or as needed
● Assist with specialized medical procedures when needed
● Follow LTWC’s Animal Care policies, procedures, diets, and shift procedures
● Coordinate with Wildlife Care Manager to determine priority task
● Use WRMD to enter new intakes, update charts, and review analytic reports
● Assist with and carry out releases
● Work on enclosure projects to improve patient care
● Coordinate transportation for wildlife

Other Duties as Assigned:
● Participate in volunteer and intern training events
● Participate in special events on behalf of LTWC as needed
● Assist Wildlife Care Manager with development of protocols and procedures as assigned
● Answering the wildlife hotline and responding to public inquiries
● Coordinate food pick-up for animals as needed
● Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
● Experience working in Wildlife Rehabilitation, Veterinary Medicine is preferred
● B.A. or B.S. in wildlife science, biology, environmental science or similar field preferred
● Experience working with & leading volunteers is preferred
● Required Vaccinations: Covid-19 and tetanus
● Model the IWRC Code of Ethics
● Fluent in speaking and writing English.
● Energy, flexibility, and resilience with an ability to deal with difficult or unforeseen problems,
remain calm, and stay persistent.
● Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, on-time work ethic, and exceptional
attention to detail
● Strong organizational, and interpersonal skills, and initiative
● Driver’s license, car insurance, and transportation required
● Must be available to work weekends and evenings
● Knowledge of natural history and husbandry of California Native Species preferred
Physical Demands: The employee must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of the job, including:
● Walk and/or stand on your feet throughout a normal active workday.
● Engage in repetitive motions of legs, arms, and hands.
● Ability to hear and to see.
● Lift and move animals up to 50 pounds.
● Tolerate allergic conditions from working with animals.
● Sit at a desk for extended periods, twisting to reach equipment and operate office tools.
