Non-releasable education bird of prey wanted for Nature Center
- off-site education animal
- static display animal
Potomac Overlook Regional Park is looking for a non-releasable education bird of prey to use for both static display and on-glove educational programs for the public. Potomac Overlook is part of the NOVA Parks agency and is a 68 acre park in Arlington, VA, and has a nature center and outdoor bird of prey enclosure where we house many animals native to VA that we care for. Our park also holds an Exhibit Wild Animals in VA permit through DWR and a Special Purpose Possession - Live Migratory Birds permit through USFWS to be in compliance with all state and federal regulations. All the birds of prey we care for under our permits are formerly wild, non-releasable education birds with limited or no flight due to their previous injuries.
After the recent passing of our park's Great Horned Owl, we are looking to fill the vacated spot in our birds of prey enclosure with either a native VA bird of prey species, or another Great Horned Owl. our birds of prey enclosures are open to the public year round, 6-7 days a week and are used for public programs. The dimensions of the vacated Great Horned Owl enclosure are 7.8 feet wide x 8.4 feet tall x 16 feet long. More details on the enclosure and pictures available upon request. We are requesting that any new bird have a history of being in captivity, glove trained, and a demeanor that allows our staff to reasonably and safely work with them.
Thank you for your consideration. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us, and we are happy to provide any further information needed.
