Reason for entering rehabilitation.:

ASY Great Horned owl was admitted due to barbed wire injury resulting in wounds to the patagium which caused scarring and reduced ROM in the left wing. Owl is non-flighted.

More Information

Adult GHOW suitable as a surrogate parent only. Has been housed with nestling to fledgling and other adult GHOW's and RTHA's. When placed in the aviary started to incubate and sit in the nest of our adult females eggs. Suspected male (much smaller in size than our female, wt: 1395g). Has been a great role model for the nestling and fledgling GHOW's currently in care, and believe it has the potential to actively raise young coming into rehab (if the timing is right).
Owl is NOT suitable for educational programming and must have an enclosure with ample space and ladders to help raise the next generations.
