He has been in our care since 2014 after being transferred from a rehab. He was an education ambassador for many years until retired from handling due to us wanting to change his training to positive reinforcement and giving him choice and control. He is fully flighted and has no injuries.

Has a history of traditional, forced compliance methods of handling from prior caregivers. We believe he had reached a state of learned helplessness and was giving up while being taken to program. He started getting the option to say no when going on these and has not gone on one since 2024. We moved to no equipment and positive reinforcement for training with him. He will voluntarily scale when in his working weight range and will take food from a bare hand once relationship is built up. However, he is still fearful of the glove and will typically fly away when the glove is put near him.
Typical great horned owl reaction. Will clack when first approached but typically settles down when he realizes that he is not getting caught up. If someone walks up to him in his enclosure he will typically fly away to a new perch unless it is during feeding.
